Faith and Trust and Pixie Dust

When I woke up this morning, I felt like sitting on the edge of my bed was like sitting on the edge of a very high cliff hovering over a dark abyss. Feet dangling in the open air, the sweet veil of forgetting that sleep shelters us in began to clear and “reality” slowly steeped in. Horrible acts in Paris, friends and family dealing with cancer, others hanging on by a thread and a brain full of my own sh*& swirled up from that darkness below.

I sat in this fog for a moment, then stopped and asked myself “Is this how I want to start my day? In a huddled ball of fear ? Or do I want to start my day with the wide-eyed innocence and balls out love of little sister?”

So slowly I put one foot on the floor, than the other, took a deep breath and made my choice….

“All the world is made of faith and trust and pixie dust.”

(JM Barrie, Peter Pan)

“All the world is made of faith and trust and pixie dust.”

And repeat

“All the world is made of faith and trust and pixie dust.”

Faith is a belief that is not based in proof. Having faith in our human race, when the loudest proof being broadcast is that we should fear one another is one big fu*%ing challenge. But that’s the catch with faith, it ain’t easy. Exercising faith means not contributing to petty comments on news feeds and chats that fear monger but instead focusing on believing that the good out weighs the bad and adding volume to that side of the conversation instead.

Trust is a confident expectation of something, a hope. Well if you thought faith was a big challenge, trust is the mother load. So with a pile of sh*& this high to climb, why not program this into your choice for the day….trust that when sh*& from the pile hits the fan, there are billions of good people in the world ready to stand by something that resembles hope. Trust that the good brigade will stand together and not be divided by petty ass crap.

Pixie dust – (which is actually in the dictionary by the way) is a substance or influence with an apparently magical effect that brings great success or luck. Here’s my own recipe for pixie dust. I suggest you make a big batch of it up right now while brewing your morning coffee.

(Faith + Trust) x Love – Fear

(glitter is, of course, always an additional bonus)

Perhaps when the bad, scary sh*& happens, it is life’s way of asking us all to step up to choose to love more and fear less. After all, you can’t control others hate and fear but you can control your own. And by choosing love, you are sending out a light to help others find it on their own path.

So my fellow soldiers in the army of love, saddle up those unicorns and start throwing that pixe dust sh*% everywhere. We’ve got a lot of work to do today.

Thank you! Your feedback means so much. It’s scary choosing to ignore the fear of putting your true self “out there”, but the hope that someone reads it and it sparks their own light to shine…well that makes jumping off the cliff worth it every time 🙂
